Cao Fei's art is a study in exuberant ambiguity. Her early works were among the first to tackle the vibrant youth, factory, online and regional cultures of the Mainland, capturing and reflecting upon the new kinds of human subjects and social relations that its economic transformation was making possible. This exhibition, Cao Fei’s first large institutional exhibition in Asia, revolves around a newly commissioned film, Prison Architect, that engages directly with Tai Kwun's layered history.

IN/Visible Rattan Bottle Workshop

Rattan weaving is one of the occupational-therapy activities that people in custody undertook in Victoria Prison. This workshop, hosted by local artist Loching Lam in collaboration with the Correctional Services Department (CSD), offers participants a chance to create a rattan bottle of their own – and in the process, gain insight into CSD’s work in recovery and rehabilitation.

TK16: The Barrack Block

The TK16 series, which tells the stories of the 16 historic buildings located in the Central Police Station compound, begins with the Barrack Block, the site’s oldest police building. Step through the door adorned with a “TK 16” sign on 1/F to experience this heritage building from various perspectives. Walking along the old staircase, you can explore the spaces where policemen once relaxed after work.

“Sharing what I am still learning”: reading together at Tang Kwok Hin’s Every Pandiculate

Poking fun at the concept of Freudian lack, Naomi Uman’s “Removed” uses nail polish remover and household bleach to physically erase the female body from old porn footage. Similar fantasy bodies also appear in Donoso’s “Casa Roshell”, which follows male crossdressers roaming free inside the haven created by Roshell and Lilana.
