With a bustling community surrounded by galleries, antique shops, restaurants and bars, Tai Kwun’s neighbourhood breathes the essence of a vibrant cultural life.

Tai Kwun is easily accessible via public entrance gates. Visitors can also enter via a footbridge at the intersection of Hollywood Road and Old Bailey Street, which connects the compound with the Central to Mid-Levels Escalator.

    Walk towards Sheung Wan along Queen’s Road Central and turn left at the junction with Queen Victoria Street, to reach Tai Kwun via escalator in 100QRC and the Central to Mid-Levels Escalator.

  • Hong Kong Station Exit E – One International Finance Centre (One IFC)

    Walk through the Central Elevated Walkway (footbridge) to the former Central Market, and reach Tai Kwun directly via the Central to Mid-Levels Escalator and Walkway System

  • Citybus routes 12, 12M, 13 & 26
  • Cross Harbour Bus route H1 (to Tsim Sha Tsui only)

Car parking is not available inside Tai Kwun. If you are driving, you can use the hourly car parks nearby, including:

  • Universal Trade Centre Car Park (3 Arbuthnot Road)

[Suggested route] From Admiralty MTR Station Exit A to Tamar Street Bus Stop

  1. Take the staff-operated stair lift from the station concourse at Exit A to Admiralty Centre
  2. Travel along the barrier-free access pathway to exit Admiralty Centre
  3. Head towards Lippo Centre direction on Tamar Street
  4. Board Citybus route 12 or 13 at the “Admiralty Station - Tamar Street” bus stop (outside Lippo Centre)
  5. Alight at the “Tai Kwun, Hollywood Road” bus stop

From Central MTR Station Exit A to The Landmark Bus Stop

  1. Take the lift from the station concourse at Exit A to World-Wide House
  2. On the Ground floor, walk along Pedder Street and cross Des Voeux Road Central
  3. Turn left to cross Pedder Street towards LANDMARK ATRIUM
  4. Walk along Des Voeux Road Central towards Ice House Street
  5. Board Citybus route 26 at “The Landmark - Des Voeux Road Central” bus stop (outside LANDMARK ATRIUM)

Arrangement Under Inclement Weather Conditions

Black Rainstorm Warning Signal

If Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued before 8am, the site will remain closed and re-open two hours after the signal is lowered.

If Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued after 8am, the site will remain open with limited operations.

Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above

If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above is lowered before 6pm of the day in question, Tai Kwun will reopen after two hours with limited operations.

Some public programmes may be postponed or cancelled after the lowering of Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above. Visitors may refer to their individual programme page on Tai Kwun website.

Tai Kwun has a dedicated Visitor Experience team who is always happy to help and answer questions about Tai Kwun. Visitors can come to our Visitor Centre located at the Barrack Block (Block 03) to obtain the latest information on Tai Kwun’s programmes.

Tai Kwun support people with different learning needs to appreciate heritage in self-guided tour. We offer a set of learning tool with professionally-designed tactile graphics and audio descriptions for people who wish to enjoy heritage with multisensory stimulations or the visually impaired. This tool can stimulate sensory experience and synchronise touch and sound.

FAQ

1. Do I need a ticket to visit Tai Kwun?
It’s free to visit Tai Kwun. However, an admission fee may be required for specific exhibitions or programmes. Please refer to the individual programmes pages for more details. 

2. If I come with a visitor in a wheelchair, which entrance should I use?
There are 2 wheelchair-friendly entrances: Pottinger Gate (Hollywood Road) and Bauhinia House Gate (Arbuthnot Road)

3. If I am in wheelchair, can I access all areas of the site?
Tai Kwun has devoted great efforts to conserve the heritage of the site, especially in protecting and enhancing the historical spaces and material character of the Central Police Station compound. Most buildings, therefore, have maintained their previous appearances. Certain buildings may not be as friendly as some others, but alternatives will be provided. Should you need any assistance, please do not hesitate to email us.

4. Can I rent a wheelchair or stroller on site?
Wheelchairs can be borrowed at the Visitor Centre at the Barrack Block (Block 03) and the Gallery Reception at JC Contemporary. We currently do not provide a stroller rental service.

5. Are guide dogs allowed on site?
Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome.
