Since December 2021, “The Hearth” invites the renowned singer-songwriter Vicky Fung to curate a series of concerts to explore what identity means to musicians and how music empowers them. In 2023, the first concert will be brought together by three young singer-songwriter and producers with distinctive styles. Together they will recount on the power of music to help them overcome hurdles in life.
“Behind the SEEN”
Musicians make music, but at the same time, some of them may agree that music also defines who they are. The confidence and glamour we see on stage are often shaped by challenges and failures overcome by musicians out of the limelight.
The eye is the window of the soul. When Clara Lee was enjoying a successful career, she was diagnosed with glaucoma and suffered from a deterioration of sight and health. She realised that what she treasured most in life is singing, and decided to dedicate herself to music and bring joy and comfort to people. Music is her remedy.
Singer-songwriter XTIE suffered from eczema since childhood. The condition has troubled her and caused low self-esteem. Through working as an arts administrator and singer-songwriter, XTIE gained confidence to continue her pursuit in musical career. She recently released the single “Skin” which depicts her story and encourages people to embrace themselves.
Beatboxer Heartgrey is an award-winning musician with international fame. While he was perceived as strong and positive in the public eye, not many knew that he suffered from psychological conditions and slumped both emotionally and professionally. When he finally managed to walk out of the depression, Heartgrey decided to expand his capacity and took up roles of arranger and producer in different projects and programmes. In this concert, he wishes to share his personal journey with the audience.
