A most unique heritage landmark in Hong Kong, the Central Police Station compound, or Tai Kwun as it is colloquially known, has borne invaluable witness to the city’s development since the 1840s. Today, this former icon of law and order has been lovingly transformed by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) into a dynamic home of heritage, arts and leisure.

This exhibition charts the richly-layered past of Tai Kwun as well as the transformation of the historic site. Throughout the whole planning, conservation and revitalisation process, the HKJC has worked closely with the government and the community to imaginatively celebrate and continue the compound’s legacy. The key milestones from that exceptional endeavour are captured in this display.

We hope this story of a heritage-led transformation will inspire you to enjoy and engage with the rich culture offerings that Tai Kwun will bring to Hong Kong.
