Half

(Singapore – A programme of Huayi – Chinese Festival of Arts 2022)

What happens if your reflection breaks free from you? What will it do and where will it go? 

Half is an explosive and intimate dance portrait of a dancer and his reflection. The film offers a fusion of film and dance by incorporating movements within the image. Through this, it also explores the idea of having multi-faceted layers within the self.  

Half is directed by critically acclaimed director Royston Tan and produced by Chuan Pictures, in collaboration with co-choreographer and dancer Zhuo Zihao, co-choreographer Yarra Ileto as well as composer and sound designer Chong Li-Chuan.

To whom it may concern can be likened to a note that records fragments of life and is thrown into the river of time. It travels toward the future, waiting for someone to pick it up and read it to connect other chapters of the story.

Peculiar Man observed the daily lives of Les Petites Choses Production members from the perspective of a creator. This collaborative process, which took place in-person and online, enabled Peculiar Man to compose each person's passions, frustrations, and idiosyncrasies into portraits and respond to the surroundings via body movements. Through the reinterpretation of the Good Things Happening Films Studio and director Wu Hsiao-Lu, a poetic and detached approach is adopted to portray intimate moments that are either absurd and noisy or lonely and quiet.

A Long Walk

(Hong Kong)

“This is a long winding road of darkness, where light only shines at the very end – as it is with creative forces; as it is in life.”

Since his arrival in Hong Kong in the 1980s, Ong Yong Lock has taken root in Hong Kong, and grown inseparable with dance. The ebbs and flows of his 30-year career are always met with intense dedication to performances, choreography and teaching. In spite of the long winding road in the long dark night, he starts racing on this path again, perhaps for the very last time.

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay (Singapore)

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is Singapore’s national performing arts centre, hosting a year-round line-up of about 3,500 performances and activities, of which more than 70% are presented free for all to enjoy. As a centre for everyone, Esplanade creates opportunities for seniors, youth, children and underserved communities to experience the arts. It supports the creation of artistic content by commissioning and producing new Singapore and Asian work for the international stage. It also develops technical capabilities for the industry nationally.   

Esplanade is operated by The Esplanade Co Ltd, which is a charity and not-for-profit organisation.

Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) (Taiwan)

Located next to the Weiwuying Metropolitan Park, the Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) measures 9.9 hectares wide and is the world’s largest single-roof building. Inspired by the banyan trees from the park, Weiwuying’s sound wave-like streamline appearance symbolises the openness and freedom of performing arts. Regarding the Weiwuying Banyan Plaza, it features the Opera House, Concert Hall, Playhouse, and Recital Hall; and an open outdoor theater that uses the sky as its curtains and grass as its chairs. The ideas of openness, penetration, and tolerance conveyed by the banyan trees were incorporated in the overall architectural design, inviting visitors to enter the facilities and enjoy art at every corner. The Center opened on October 13^th 2018 and is now operating all-year round, developing and bringing local as well as international talents to southern Taiwan.

Taichung Theater (Taiwan)

The Taichung Theater, Taiwan is dedicated to the vision of creating a theater for the extraordinary and awesome arts, and to let the perception and appreciation of art become an integral part of everyday life. Through 3 annual branding festivals and house hiring, the theater embraces the diversity of programs. The Taichung Theater also regularly organises a variety of activities for all citizens.
