Overview

What is creativity? Do you think you are creative?

Many people nowadays recongise the importance of being creative, however, some of them may also feel frustrated for not being able to manifest their creativity, which sometimes is because they have limited creativity in the context of arts. In fact, creativity is about unleashing one’s mind and looking for meanings and solutions through imagination. Join us in this series of events exploring what “creativity” is about and get inspired in Tai Kwun.

Music is one of the best ways to stimulate creativity and connecting people. However, not everyone can play a music instrument. This workshop unleashes participants’ potentials through simple yet practical methods – voice and “chi” – as well as to activate their ability of self-healing, balancing and realigning their bodies and minds.

Sound Journey
Travelling is one of the most common ways to seek life inspirations. However, during the pandemic, we cannot physically travel to different places. How about a soundcation? Guided by three musicians from different disciplines: sound healer and percussionist Heidi Law, jazz guitarist Teriver Cheung, sound healer and Shaman Drum practitioner Sheeta Ng, with sound and jazz improv music, participants will explore the four elements of nature (wind, wood, water and fire) and go through a journey of sound healing.

When was the last time you took a close look at your choices and behaviour? When was the last time you were able to bond deeply with a stranger?

In this journey, you will be paired with 2 strangers, looking back at your past 12 months, exploring the hidden sides of yourself and listening to the stories of the others.

Screening: Creativity is – a Short Documentary

What does it mean to be a creative being in a city like Hong Kong? It is not hard to imagine the suffocation of our creativity in Hong Kong, with heavy expectations of the older generation, constant bombardment from social media, acute lack of urban space and the list goes on. Directed by Sharon Yeung, a Hong Kong filmmaker, and produced by CNEX, the light and humorous documentary Creativity is , which features revealing insights from six prominent local participants, launches into a whirl through numerous ideas on creativity from how our mind works, to our obsessions and fears, it's a uniquely “Hong Kong” exploration of the possibilities of what we can do to rediscover the creativity within ourselves.

Creativity is: Create Your Own – Interactive Documentary

100 audience will have 100 of different Creativity is: Create Your Own. The award-winning interactive documentary is a game as well as a documentary. Through the interactive experience, the participant explores further into the personal relationship between creativity and themselves by answering questions about their own hopes and fears.  No two persons are the same, and the same is true on the journey of exploration.

Heidi Law

Sheeta Ng

Heidi Law graduated from Shepherd School of Music, Rice University with Master Degree of Music in Percussion Performance. She is also a graduate from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Music.

Heidi is a Sound Healing Practitioner trained by The College of Sound Healing (UK), as well as Reiki practitioner with Usui Reiki Master Level and Karuna Reiki Master Level, and a Certified Meditation Teacher.

As an multi-faceted percussionist, she has collaborated with artists across a wide spectrum of genres; she also performs as a singer in contemporary and pop settings. As an educator, Heidi co-founded Happy Music Academy in Happy Valley and Soundness Studio in Causeway Bay.

According to JazzTimes, “Teriver Cheung demonstrates an impressive command of his instrument and reveals a mature, composerly approach”. Born in Hong Kong, the award-winning Jazz guitarist and composer has frequently collaborated with musicians including Grammy Award winning artist Billy Childs, Eddie Gómez, Keita Ogawa, Eric Marienthal. 

In 2015, Cheung curated the multimedia concert Hong Kong Episodes and collaborated with various musicians including the classical music composer Fung Lam, the pianist, organist and composer Chok Kerong from Singapore. As a collaborating Jazz artist, he has performed with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and participate in various production in the mainstream music industry. His independent band R.O.O.T. has won the 2nd place of the Best New Artist at the 903 Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation. 

Teriver Cheung is an endorsed artist for the D’Angelico Guitars and Fender In-Ear Monitors.

Founder of NSW Arts Company Limited.

Graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a M.A. degree in Cultural Management, and a Bachelor of Communication (Marketing and Advertising Communication) from the University of Canberra. Member of Dharma Drum Mountain (Hong Kong) Zen Drum Group, also she is a singing bowl, Shaman Drum and Reiki practitioner. Sheeta has held senior arts administration positions in sizable organisations, such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tai Kwun and the Hong Kong Arts Centre and M+. In 2019, She received the 58th Venice Biennale Internship and in 2015, she received the Sage Gateshead, UK Internships for the community music project "Music Spark" and "Co-Musica".  She also has profound experience in music education. With a Postgraduate Certificate in Music Therapy from HKUSPACE, and the ABRSM Grade 8 certifications on Vocal and Piano. She was teaching in secondary and primary schools, as well as Hong Kong Treble Choir. She is working as an independent music producer, community musicians at I-D Art and curator for the Art and mindfulness project  - Dew at Hart Haus, Co-Curator of Ensemble Transinece: Mindfulness Music camp.
