Taking place every Monday afternoon, “Afternoon Series” invites emerging local artists to curate and develop mini-concerts, dance, theatre, comedy and multi-disciplinary performances for the unique environment at Tai Kwun. Sitting in the heart of Central, Tai Kwun is perfectly located to offer a brief reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the week. Come and relax with your co-workers, friends and families all the while being inspired by the innovative ideas of the artists.

RedBricks Harmonica is back to Tai Kwun! With rearranged folk songs & harmonica original pieces, five enthusiastic musicians from RedBricks will bring you a journey of exciting experience in an hour’s time. From Argentine tango to snow-falling in Russia and more, we hope to bring you a refreshing afternoon with harmonica music at Tai Kwun!

About the artists
The RedBricks is formed by five enthusiastic musicians born and breed in Hong Kong. While they are all frequent winners in the World Harmonica Festivals, trophies and awards are only the very start of their music journeys. They have performed as members of Hong Kong Harmonica Association in Shanghai Expo 2010, Singapore, Malaysia and Germany. In 2017, the RedBricks represented Hong Kong to perform in Bahrain.

In October 2018, RedBricks was invited by the Hong Kong Home Affairs Bureau to join the 1st China International Import Expo in Shanghai, showcasing Hong Kong harmonica music in the National Exhibition Area. During the tour to Shanghai, RedBricks also performed in the Hong Kong Dinner hosted by the Chief Executive Mrs. Carrie Lam, demonstrating harmonica music as the soft power of Hong Kong.

Redbricks is actively performing in various local and international events including the Hong Kong Sevens, Hong Kong Harmonica Successors concert and “Hello Hong Kong” project directed by Korean Cultural Center.

About the artists
The Up:Strike Project aims to embody the nature of the integral movement in percussion: “up and strike.” Founded by two Hong Kong-based percussionists, Karen Yu and Dr. Matthew Lau, The Up:Strike Project is a diverse and flexible group, aiming to thread the community together by welcoming all levels of percussionists and musicians, and consistently engaging different young and emerging percussionists to work with us.

By bringing professional and emerging percussionists together, presenting and championing a diverse mix of percussion music, and supporting the future leaders of percussive arts, The Up:Strike Project endeavours to strike and stand out as the pioneer of the ever-changing art form in percussion and contemporary music.

Devoted to bring changes, The Up:Strike Project seeks to elevate the artistry of percussion, at the same time, focusing on community engagement through musicmaking and broadening the diversity of performed repertoire.

We're extremely excited to be continuing our Series of 2! Series of 2 is a project in which we explore the potential of duets, a highly intimate form of chamber music making that puts the two musicians' communicative abilities to the test.

This time, we have the pleasure of performing with guest double bass player, Kelvin NG, exploring music by Shostakovich, Gliere, Piazzolla and Edgar Meyer! Hope we can give you a chilling lunch. Don't miss our performances and stay tuned!

About the artists
Formed in 2017, the Hongkong-based NOVA Ensemble is an expanding collection of the City’s leading young Classical musicians, dedicated to innovative (re)interpretations of established classics, while actively engaging with young composers and commissioning new works for the Ensemble.

In May, Mr. Brass is bringing a brass quintet programme in a more traditional side showcasing the beauty of the sound of brass at Tai Kwun.

The programme includes Renaissance Dances by Tielman Susato, a Belgian composer back in 16th century. The next one is Quintet no.1 in B-flat minor, Op.5 composed by Russian composer Victor Ewald who is widely named as one of the most important composers for brass quintet music. Quintet by Michael Kamen and Killer Tango by Sonny Kompanek will come next to conclude the show with some Latin energy!

MR. Brass is committed to bringing brass chamber music playing to the next aesthetic level through a wide range of repertoire, professionalism and utmost passion. They are also dedicated to education and has organised school concerts, masterclasses and seminars to nurture the next generation musicians.
