Tai Kwun Contemporary's BOOKED: 2021 is now welcoming applications from artists, art publishers, bookmakers, and art organisations for its third annual art book "boutique" edition, from 25 to 28 February 2021.
In light of travel restrictions and social distancing amid the pandemic, the 2021 edition of BOOKED: will feature Hong Kong-based participants while offering a special ‘twin’ partner programme, where local participants will be matched with regional or international participants. Local participants can also suggest non-local participants to be paired with as possible partners. At a time when the world has been upended, the intrinsic nature of books and book fairs to circulate offers the chance for disparate people and communities to connect over great distances. To that end, we encourage local participants to apply (including the possibility for additional support).
Ideal participants for our special 2021 edition of BOOKED: will feature artists’ books, zines, photo books, art monographs, critical/theoretical and experimental writing as well as other printed ephemera. Participants willing to participate in the partnering programme may receive extra consideration.
BOOKED: 2021 underscores Tai Kwun Contemporary’s dedication to presenting contemporary art publishing through its Artists' Book Library—a growing collection of Asia-centred, artist-driven publications, as well as special projects and programmes that support the continually expanding cultural ecology in Hong Kong. This includes providing a platform for creative practitioners and publishers who are invested in books as a medium of artistic and intellectual expression to share their work. It also provides an opportunity for public audiences to enjoy and engage with these materials as an important resource for learning and research.
